Centrifugal Compressor Demonstration (SMT-FM-37)

The purpose of this unit is to demonstrate the working principle and performance characteristics of a centrifugal compressor. It enables learners to study how air is compressed and how changes in operating conditions influence compressor behavior.

The design consists of a motor-driven single-stage centrifugal compressor mounted on a sturdy steel frame, with transparent inlet and outlet ducts for clear visualization of airflow. An adjustable aperture is provided to manually vary the airflow rate while maintaining a constant fan speed. A calibrated orifice plate on the inlet side measures the airflow rate accurately. The system is equipped with pressure and temperature sensors to monitor operating conditions and collect performance data.

This unit is useful in applications related to thermodynamics, turbomachinery, and fluid mechanics education. It benefits students and engineers by providing practical knowledge of centrifugal compressor operation, efficiency analysis, and performance evaluation, which are essential for industries such as power generation, refrigeration, HVAC systems, and gas turbines.
