Hydrostatic Pressure & Centre of Pressure Apparatus (SMT-FM-04B)
The Hydrostatic Pressure & Centre of Pressure Apparatus (SMT-FM-04B) is designed to study the principles of hydrostatic pressure in liquids at rest. It demonstrates how fluids exert pressure on container walls and allows investigation of the relationship between fluid depth and resulting forces. This knowledge is crucial in fields such as shipbuilding, hydraulic engineering, and building services.
The apparatus includes a quadrant attached to the arm of a balance that swings around an axis. When submerged, the water applies force on the flat rectangular face, producing a moment about the axis. The swinging arm has an adjustable counterbalance to maintain equilibrium. A graduated scale indicates water levels, and the tank features adjustable supporting legs for leveling and a drainage valve for easy handling.
This setup enables practical experiments on hydrostatics, helping learners understand the theory through observation. It provides accurate, repeatable results that are useful in both academic training and practical engineering applications. By combining simplicity with precision, it makes complex fluid mechanics concepts easier to grasp and apply.
